The Bible Bee

For those of you who don't know what the Bible Bee is, I will tell you: It's kind of like a contest where kids say bible verses. For the local round there's an oral round where we say as many verses as we can to the judges in ten minutes. After that we had a written test. There were two hundred questions and we had one hour to answer them. Only two people finished the test. I was one of those two people. At the end of the day there was a contest for the top five winners. That's when we got our trophies. All of the Primary group went on stage, and the director announced the winners. I thought for sure that if I was one of the top five I would have fourth or fifth place. So after the director had announced the fifth, fourth, third, and second place I thought: "Oh well, better luck next time." But when he said "And in first place-what a sweetheart we have here-Charis Jacobson!" I was so shocked I laughed. Me? I was first place? I went and sat in the first place chair while the director explained the rules for the final round. We would take turns saying verses to the judges, and if we started over, added a word, didn't say a word, didn't say the reference before and after the verse, or passed, we had to sit down. Since I was in first place I went first. I got the first two verses right, Philippians 4:13 and Genesis 1:1-2, then I had to pass. But the boy in second place, Kyle, messed up his verse, so he had to sit down too. But since we had both gotten the verses wrong or passed, we did it again. I got Matthew 15:1-9. I would have gotten it right, but I said whoever instead of anyone, so I had to sit down. But then Kyle sang Deuteronomy 7:22-25 (and the rules said you're not supposed to sing the verses), so both of us got first place. I'm still waiting to know if I'm invited to the finals. I hope I am. I won a first place trophy, four tickets to a ball game, and 200 dollars!! Also, each of us got a bag of goodies for participating in the Bible Bee. 8:30 tonight is when they announce the winners. I can't wait!

Lucan's New Dance

Lately Lucan's been a little into dancing. He only knows three dance moves, which he made up himself. His dance moves are: 1) stomping his feet, 2) bending his knees up and down (he sticks his rear end out while he does it; it's hilarious!) 3) spinning around (I guess he didn't really make it up, but likes to do it).

My New "Glasses"

I have contacts!! I'm so excited! I got them yesterday. As long as I can take them out and put them in without much difficulty I can have them. I'm glad, because now I can wear sunglasses! NOW the sun won't be in my eyes!

My Sewing Days

Lately I've been doing a lot of sewing. I've had to sew a rip in Kenna's duck's leg, a rip in my snake, and two rips in Tobin's snake. I didn't really have to I guess, but I wanted to. It's fun. I have also worked on and finished a stuffed snake made out of a tight leg. The material had been stretched out with Kenna playing with it; so now it's as tall as her! I have been working on a stuffed horse too. So far I've got the back legs finished. I'm going to give the snake and the horse to Sammy and Sarah, friends of ours who live in the neighborhood. Sammy's four and Sarah's two. Since the tight legs are white I'm going to let Sammy and Sarah decorate them, 'cause I don't know how I would decorate them. I hope they'll like their new stuffed animals. I think I'm going to do some more sewing things when I'm finished with Sarah's horse!

You may wonder why I'm writing haiku's. I don't know myself. I just had this idea a few days ago: I could write simple pleasure haiku's. However, after I wrote 32 of them, I couldn't think of much other simple pleasures. So I thought of an idea for a book. Each chapter could be different kinds of haiku's. I didn't write ALL 32 of my haiku's on this post. That would be too much. So I just wrote 24 of them. You may think that "The Trees" haiku isn't a haiku at all. But it is. It's just a poem with 3 haiku's in it. Well, That's all I have to write about.

Silly Kenna

Kenna has been being very funny the last few days and I wanted to tell you what she's been up to.

A few days ago: "Ahhh! Buggy! Come to me, buggy. You want me, buggy? You want Kenna?"

This morning: Kenna walks out onto the back porch. Lucan is sitting in the shade. Her first words to him are: "Hi Bud."

This afternoon: Arden is drinking out of a water bottle. Kenna screams: "No! Dat mine!

When she plays with her dolls: "Waaa. Baby crying. Here baby. You need diaper change?"

When Mom finishes reading her a story: Kenna: "More, more." Mom: "Not right now." Kenna: "Awww."

Nap time: Mom puts Kenna down for a nap. If she or Dad is not lying on my bed she sneaks out, comes downstairs, and hides unless someone finds her, and then she goes back upstairs.

News about the Talent show

It was great! I had so much fun! I was near the middle, but what the other kids did went by so fast it was my turn in no time at all. My legs must have been shaking when I went up there, but once I sat down I forgot that there even was an audience. I played the piece perfectly with no mistakes, and when I finished bobbed a little curtsy that mama said was very nice. Daddy didn't put it in the video though.
