On Tuesday, August 23, around 9:00 Mama started having contractions. She shooed us to bed so that she could get some rest and told me to sleep on the couch. Around 4:00 A.M. she woke me up and told me to tell grandma it was time to go to the hospital. We got there around 5, and by then mama was having some painful contractions. The mid-wife, Jo-Ann, asked me if I wanted to help catch the baby. I said yes, and around 1 1/2 hours later I had helped deliver my first baby. He was the biggest of all mama's babies (8.3 lbs). I held him for large amounts of time and was sad when I had to give him up. I took some pictures of his first bath and when we got his footprints. We had to leave soon after that, and when we got home I think I took a little nap. The next day around 1:00 mama and Zaden got to come home. We welcomed them with homemade signs. Here are some pictures of us:

Summertime
Summertime, when it is hot,
Children run, and jump, and play,
Laughing in the sprinkler.
Hungry, little children
Eat watermelon.
Dribble, dribble,
Down their chins,
red, messy, good.
Juicy watermelon.
A cold, yummy snack
in Summertime.
Children run, and jump, and play,
Laughing in the sprinkler.
Hungry, little children
Eat watermelon.
Dribble, dribble,
Down their chins,
red, messy, good.
Juicy watermelon.
A cold, yummy snack
in Summertime.

Two New Haikus
Snowflakes fall gently;
White against the darker shade
Of the evergreens.
Wind blows; leaves rustle.
Shivering,I wrap my coat
Around my body.
White against the darker shade
Of the evergreens.
Wind blows; leaves rustle.
Shivering,I wrap my coat
Around my body.

Limerick
Here's a limerick I made up last night:
There once was a man who loved to eat
Fruits, vegetables, candy and meat.
But one day he stopped,
For his belly had popped,
And all that was left were his feet.
There once was a man who loved to eat
Fruits, vegetables, candy and meat.
But one day he stopped,
For his belly had popped,
And all that was left were his feet.

My Birthday
So far, this has been a great day! We got to sleep in an extra hour, we had no morning chores or school work, and best of all, we had cowboy cake for breakfast! I can't wait for Arden to open his presents. I made him a kite. But don't tell him that.

1...2...3..Dresses
At dinner tonight Kenna came to the table wearing one of my Christmas dresses. I don't mind her wearing my dresses, but during mealtime is a different matter. Mom toled her to go change, and she came back wearing one of my pretty summer dresses. Mom told her to go change again, and this time she came down wearing one of HER pretty summer dresses. However, we were all hungry so Mom just said: "You know what, it's one of her dresses. I don't care if she wears it during dinner; and if it gets dirty it's her fault." So, finally, we got to eat dinner.
The Zoo
Yesterday we went to the zoo. Here's a poem to tell you what we did:
A Trip to the Zoo
By Charis Jacobson
My family and I
Went to the zoo;
We saw lions, monkeys,
And a rhinoceros too.
We saw an elephant
Put on a show;
We all wanted
More fun, so...
We took a ride
On the merry-go-round
Spinning this way,
And going up and down.
We saw a giraffe
Eat his lunch.
We were hungry,
So we ate our lunch.
We looked at the bonobos
And saw a baby
Sitting on the lap
Of mama monkey
We rode the train
Around the tracks
Saw ducks and goats
And then came back.
We saw some fish
Swim in a tank
And saw wild cats
In their cage.
We came home
And had ice cream
Going to the zoo
Was such a treat!
The zoo was so much fun! I think my favorite was the baby bonobo. He was sitting on his mama's lap, and when we came and looked at him he put his hands and nose on the glass and stared at us. He was so cute!
Another one of my favorites was the elephant. He nodded his head, balanced on the tree stump, lifted his foot and his trunk and held his pose, then he got down, danced, backed up, and skipped forward. He got a treat for each trick he did.
That's all we did. But it was so much fun!!!
